Scanning your old photos onto a computer might sound complicated, but it really is not that difficult. Learning how to use a scanner will be the first step in preserving your photos to a digital format. Once you achieve that step you are on your way.

The benefits of having a digital archive of your photos is they are now stored on a format that can be copied to an external hard drive, put on CD or uploaded to an online photo album. Having your photos in a digital format also allows you to edit the photos for red eye, color correction and contrast.

There are several scanners available such as stand alone scanners, a printer that has a scanner built in or you could even use your digital camera. Which ever scanner you end up with you will need to have software that will allow you to do your photo editing. Most scanners will come with this type of software.

When scanning your old photos you will want to scan them in a high dpi.(dots per inch) This is a setting on your scanner and it should be set at 300 dpi or higher. A lower dpi would be ok if you want to display or email a photos online.

Next will be the file format you will be saving your photos in. Listed below are the common file formats for scanning.

JPEGs- this file is a compressed file which will lose a little quality due to the compression

Giff – good files for a website or emailing since the are a small compressed file

Bitmaps or bmp – these files will be large and produce a high quality file image

Tiff – large and detailed file

The results of each one of these formats will be different depending on the dpi that is used. I would recommend experimenting using different file formats and resolutions to see what suits you best.

When you follow these easy steps below DVD duplication can be an easy process to complete. If you are looking to duplicate small quantities of data or video files from your DVD, then the duplication process is the right choice. If you want your DVD copies to look and play exactly like the master then follow the check list below.

Here is what you want to look for when choosing a quality DVD duplication company.

If you are going to have printing done on your disc then it is wise to request for a print sample of what you will be printing. This will make sure you are getting the quality you were promised by the duplicator.

The next question you want to ask your duplicator is what type of media they are using. Make sure they are using a brand name disc with low error rates.

Ask the duplicator what kind of turn around time you can expect. If they miss your deadline look for a new provider.

Look for a company that has a good reputation. Read online reviews if possible and make sure they are running there business out of an actual office, not there garage.

When you are ready to submit your job make sure to have your artwork ready for the DVD disc.

Your artwork should be at a minimum of 300 dpi.

Create your artwork using professional software like photoshop

Find out what type of files they require for the artwork

Request a printed proof disc

When creating your master DVD disc make sure and use good media and the correct burn speed.

I would say almost everyone has box full of video tapes that contain precious family memories. Video tape is known as an analog format and over time will slowly degrade and loose their picture quality and color. For several years now the service has been offered to transfer you old video tapes to DVD. When creating the DVD you have the option of having motion menus so you can access key scenes throughout the video and have an interactive menu. In order to capture your analog tapes, the company will play your tapes through the required format deck and digitize them into the computer. This transfer process is done in real time. Once digitized, there are a few options, you can have the company edited your videos then make your DVD master or just have them output straight to DVD. When the DVD master is being created you do have the choice of making a menu that can list different areas of the video. This is a great way to skip through different parts of the DVD without having to watch the entire video. When your DVD master is complete I would recommend having a back up DVD made for safety purposes. DVD is a great way to preserve your memories, but if anything were to happen to your master DVD and you did not have a copy, you would need to start all over again.

When doing your video production it should be planned and created with who the end user will be. Here are a few questions you should answer.

Will my content of the video appeal to the audience

Will they learn any information from this video

What expectations do you want to have them take away after watching your video

What do you wan them to see

What is your competition

Do your home work on the subject to make sure you have a unique idea

Since you are the video producer you are in total control of what your viewer will come away with. The video producer is the creator and you have a story to tell in a way that should capture your audience. Your video should tell a story in a way that keeps your audience intrigued. Some videos are going to be less interesting in topic but this can be overcome by the way you choose to produce it and using basic story telling techniques. This will make the difference if people are going to watch your program or walk away from it.

When producing your video keep in mind that good characters, action and a quality plot will always make for a better produced video. The other element to keep in mind is emotions. It has been proven

That the most memorable videos are ones that capture the viewers emotions. Music is also a great way to enhance your video. It does not matter what subject you are trying to get across, there needs to be emotions edited into your video. This is best done by creating a story about people and there experiences which will capture your audience until the end.

Listed below are 10 tips in preparing your music CD for duplication

1. Is the sound correct? You want to make sure your sound is mixed correctly and the same volume should be equal throughout the CD. This means all songs should have equal volume on the entire CD. You do not want to find out after duplication you are having to turn the volume up and down.

2. Make sure and check all details of the CD. This would mainly refer to the table of contents on the CD. It is also important to make sure that all tracks are in the correct place.

3. Graphics are also very important as this could be what sells your CD. Making sure you have the right look on both the CD and the packaging is very important.

4. Check your spelling. Make sure and go through all spelling on the CD as well as the packaging and make sure there are no errors.
5. Before duplicating your CD make sure that you get it copy written before doing your duplication..

6. Make sure you format your printing to the best of your ability. There are a many options for formatting your CD packaging. You can print a one page insert up to a 10 page insert so you want to make sure that you have the correct placement and wording for all your content.

7. You can package in many different ways. You do not have settle for just a standard jewel case, so explore your options before duplicating your CD.

8. These items should always be included: copyright, contact information and the people that help put together the CD.

9. Make sure you test a few CD’s after duplicating to be sure they are correct.

10. The most important item is to pay attention to the details and make sure you do not have to go back and track or re-do any of your CDs. Knowing what you need when starting out will save you time and money when beginning the CD duplication process.

For many years the VHS tape reigned supreme over the home video market. It was not until the late 1990s that the DVD started to gain the spotlight. Many consumers quickly changed to the DVD due to its much higher playback quality and “digital” factor. Replacing movies came quite easy to the consumer, just buy the DVD version. But what about home movies?

Many ignored their home movies. In order to put them on DVD, it would require paying a transfer company to convert the VHS movie to DVD. However, if one wants to preserve their videos, they must have the VHS transferred to DVD or another digital format. Why? VHS tapes, like other film based mediums, will deteriorate over time. Having a video transferred to DVD or to a hard drive will extend its life indefinitely.

By transferring VHS to DVD it also allows consumers to edit and modify the video as they want. Old video from a VHS tape could be enhanced, edited, and modified in a way previous technology never could.

If you have shoeboxes full of film lying around your house you may want to consider transferring it to DVD. Regardless of whether the film is 8mm, Super 8, or 16mm, film deteriorates over time, and if you want your memories to be preserved, it is imperative they get transferred to a new digital format, such as DVD. It is possible to transfer film yourself, but is highly recommended you hire a film transfer company to do the job for you, as it will save you hundreds of hour and the end product will be of much higher quality.

When choosing a film transfer company it is important you choose a company that is not necessarily the cheapest. Film is the one thing you don’t want to “cheap out” on. Film transfer companies that will do the job for the cheapest price may sacrifice handling of the film and quality of the digitized film. You want to make sure a reputable company that really knows what they’re doing is handling and transferring your film.

Another great advantage of a quality film transfer service is they often offer editing, film enhancement, and DVD duplication after your film has been transferred. Old film can be brought to life with background music, can be edited, and duplicated to multiple DVDs to be shared with family and friends.
